AJS Supports Islington Council’s Wellbeing Project

AJS has donated £5k towards Islington Council’s Men’s Sheds project. The initiative was launched a year ago to provide men who have experienced mental ill health with a supportive space and an opportunity to learn DIY skills.

Based next to the Andover Community Centre on Seven Sisters Road, Men’s Sheds has grown fast and now opens its doors to women too.

Charmaine Brouard, Repairs Training Manager for Islington Council, comments:

“Men’s Sheds is making a real difference to residents in Islington. They are not only learning new skills but also gaining an improved sense of wellbeing by joining a friendly group that makes them feel welcome and capable.

“The money will go towards funding a tutor to teach DIY skills every Friday as part of the project. The funds from AJS are keeping this valuable initiative going; ensuring we help more people for longer. Thank you.”

Men’s Sheds teaches beginners plumbing, carpentry and tiling skills, as well as hand tool safety.
