Fire Alarms & Detection Systems Installation

AJS offers our clients a ‘one stop shop’ solution for all the fire protection requirements including installation and servicing. We supply and install a comprehensive range of fire alarm and fire detections systems for public sector & commercial clients that meet the most recent fire safety regulations for the built environment.

We are members of the British Approvals for Fire Equipment (BAFE), Fire & Security Association (FSA), and the National Security Inspectorate (NSI), providing our clients with the assurance of a comprehensive guarantee for all our work.

We have in warranty repair status with many of the main manufacturers who also deliver training directly to our engineers. All our engineers hold the appropriate accreditations which are checked annually with regular refresher and update courses.

We offer tailor made advice on the most suitable systems for your properties based on type, use, size and location.  Regulation changes have been more frequent so it is essential to get a system that is future proof and adaptable. Our experienced engineers will always give impartial advice on how to make your buildings compliant and safe for those who use them.

choosing the right system

All of our systems operate on an open protocol basis, which allow our customers a far greater choice of manufacturer and, if required, to have a reliable automatic detection linked to an Alarm Receiving Centre.

By choosing open protocol we can put together bespoke systems linking alarm and detection equipment (smoke, heat, flame and beam detectors) to provide a total protection package including fire suppression equipment.

We have in warranty repair status with many of the main manufacturers who also deliver training directly to our engineers. All our engineers hold the appropriate accreditations which are checked annually with regular refresher and update courses.

Fire Alarm Servicing and Testing

It is essential that regular maintenance inspections are carried out to ensure that there has not been a major failure of any of the fire detection or fire alarm equipment that may otherwise go unnoticed.

The period between visits to undertake inspection and service should be based upon risk assessments together with regulatory requirements.

BS 5839 advises that your fire alarm system should be inspected by a professional at least every six months. For larger premises and more complex systems, three monthly inspections are the recommendation.

AJS holds the appropriate accreditations to undertake this work including BAFE SP203-1 Fire Detection and Alarm Systems. This offers our clients the peace of mind that their buildings are compliant and protected.

Systems & Compliance

We provide maintenance and testing services for the following system types:

  • Conventional System
  • Analogue Addressable Systems
  • Wireless Systems
  • Voice Alarm Systems

All systems we design, install and maintain will meet the statutory British Standards relating to fire alarms in non-domestic premises for design installation and maintenance of systems in dwellings.

AOV Servicing

Smoke ventilation systems are life-saving systems.

Our professional service engineers provide both technical and problem-solving solutions, quickly and safely in all environments.

Maintenance reduces the likelihood of component failure and prolongs the life of the system. To make sure your AOV is working safely to its full potential it is advisable that they are serviced at least annually.

We are experienced in providing responsive maintenance services for all types of smoke ventilation systems. Our engineers can set test schedules and create service logs to ensure you meet the statutory requirements and ensure your system is fully compliant.

Our team of experienced engineers can advise you on the maintenance requirements for your system and provide a tailored maintenance schedule to suit your needs and ensure your essential life-saving systems are operating as they should.

Fire Extinguishers

Testing fire extinguishers annually is essential to make sure they work when you need them, and to ensure they conform to British Standards.

Our test will include internal and external inspection of all working parts and triggering mechanisms, checking for any corrosion and ensuring they are properly pressurised and conform to current British Standards.

In the event of a small fire, a fire blanket or fire extinguishers using water, CO2, foam, powder or wet chemical are usually the first line of defence for most businesses and will successfully extinguish the fire in over 80% of instances.

Our engineers are appropriately trained and accredited to keep your extinguishers working and to maintain your compliance.

They have the expertise and experience to provide you with the best possible service and advice when designing your maintenance package.

Wet and Dry Risers

Our experienced team at AJS design and install complete systems to new and existing buildings including storage tanks, booster pumps and associated mechanical and electrical equipment in accordance with the relevant requirements of British Standards.

We liaise with all relevant regulatory bodies i.e. The Fire Service, Council Planning, Building Structural Engineers and Client Technical service departments to ensure the installation is fully compliant with current regulations

The methods we use for testing these systems comply with the relevant requirements of the British Standards.

All dry fire mains should be checked every six months to ensure that all valves are fully serviceable, and a wet pressure test should be carried out annually to ensure that there is no leakage.

Wet fire mains should be similarly checked and, in addition, the water storage tanks and booster pumps should be checked for operational serviceability.

Our engineers are equipped to rectify defects in equipment and are well versed in the procedures of informing the Fire Service should equipment be out of action for any period of time, and in placing the appropriate warning notices.

Robust testing procedures

During the test we undertake the appropriate pressure tests and visually inspect all components of the entire system from roof to ground level.

Whilst this test is being carried out our engineer will again check the entire system for any sign of leaks or damage. Any excessive loss in pressure while the test is in progress will be deemed as a fail. If we do not find any leaks or faults we de-pressurize and drain the system and issue a certificate.

For wet risers there are additional checks made on cleanliness of storage tanks, booster pumps and associated mechanical and electrical equipment. Should the risers fail to work when required by the fire service, penalties are potentially severe.

Sprinkler Systems

AJS design, install and service complete sprinkler systems to new and existing buildings in accordance with the relevant requirements of British Standards. These include:

  • Wet and dry sprinkler systems.
  • Commercial Sprinklers (BS 12845:2015)
  • Domestic & Residential Sprinklers (BS 9251:2014)
  • Pre-action fire sprinkler systems.
  • Deluge fire sprinkler systems.
  • Fire pumps and water storage tanks.
  • Fire hydrants and hose reels.

We have a dedicated fire safety team which oversees all sprinkler system servicing and maintenance. We will provide a tailored service to you based on your systems, building and its use, to ensure your fire protection systems remain fully compliant with current regulations.

The methods we use for servicing and testing these systems comply with the relevant requirements of British Standards and BAFSA recommendations which can include weekly, monthly and quarterly checks alongside six and 12 month tests.

During the test we visually inspect all components of the entire system from roof to ground level together with a connection made to a pressurised water supply at the inlet.

Gas Fire Suppression Systems

Many of our clients have specialist environments such as IT data and server rooms where they require a fire suppression solution that will minimise damage to critical equipment.

AJS installs and maintains all the main Gas Suppression Systems that extinguish fires by releasing a concentration of gas which removes the oxygen in the room and kills the fire. These include Inert Systems, CO2 and Water Mist Systems.

All installation and maintenance offers our clients’ full compliance and certification to BAFE SP203.

Our experienced engineers will offer you impartial advice on the different systems available and the most suitable maintenance packages to protect your business and your data in the event of a fire.

Room Integrity Testing

Room Integrity Testing is a requirement required for any Gas Suppression Installation to check the pressure within the room will ensure the effectiveness of the Gaseous Extinguishing System.

It is a requirement of British Standards (ISO14520 / BS EN15004) that a room integrity test is completed on initial installation with subsequent testing annually at a minimum.

Our skilled and experienced engineers will conduct the tests to the required standards and certify once passed. If the installation fails, we will provide a full report and undertake any required remedial works to give our clients peace of mind that their critical enclosures are protected.
